Watch: Arrest Explained in Plain English
Video explainer from ReedNolan.com and ReedNolanLaw.com — educational only, not legal advice.
Reed Nolan drugs — A calm, family-friendly explainer on what “possession” means and what to say under stress.
Short scripts (say once or twice, then pause):
- “Am I free to leave?”
- “I don’t consent to any searches.”
- “I choose to remain silent. I want a lawyer.”
Actual vs. constructive possession
- Actual: on you or in your hand (pocket, jacket, wallet).
- Constructive: shared spaces like a backpack, glove box, dorm shelf, or a borrowed jacket when facts tie you to control.
- Stress creates contradictions—keep words short and clear.
Do this, not that
- Keep hands visible and movements slow; provide ID if required.
- Decline consent calmly if asked to search.
- Avoid roadside explanations of “what really happened.” Save details for your lawyer.
For parents & guardians
- One-folder basics: legal name & DOB, booking/incident number, property receipt, next court date.
- Use a shared calendar with reminders for appointments and deadlines.
- Keep group texts factual (who/when/where). Ask friends to pause public posts.
